Reporting directly to the President, the Human Resources Manager is responsible for leading and managing all human resources functions for The Country Butcher’s beef processing facility. This role oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of HR policies, programs, and practices, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while supporting employee engagement, performance, and organizational growth. The Human Resources Manager plays a strategic role in positioning The Country Butcher as an Employer of Choice in the region.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources department
- Lead full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and new employee orientation
- Address and resolve employee relations issues in a fair and consistent manner
- Ensure compliance with USDA–Food Safety Inspection Service regulations and all applicable federal, state, and local labor laws
- Maintain consultative relationships with department managers and leadership
- Coordinate staff development, performance management, and succession planning
- Develop, review, and maintain plant policies, procedures, and employee handbooks
- Update and maintain job descriptions and job requirements for all positions
- Oversee employee benefits programs, including cost management and administration
- Prepare and manage the Human Resources operations budget
- Coordinate employee recreational, social, and engagement activities
- Lead management training related to interviewing, hiring, performance management, discipline, and terminations
- Consult with legal counsel to ensure policies and practices comply with employment laws
- Participate in internal committees and cross-functional initiatives
- Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement efforts related to safety, risk reduction, and workplace processes
- Champion company culture and values throughout the organization
- Bachelor’s degree and/or 3–5 years of Human Resources management experience required
- Experience in a harvesting or food processing environment preferred
- SHRM certification required
- Strong knowledge of Indiana labor laws and employment regulations
- Experience with EEOC, Workers’ Compensation, and FMLA administration
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills
- Knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence
- Ability to present information clearly to employees, leadership, regulatory agencies, and external partners
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred (required for certain aspects of the role)
This position operates in both office and manufacturing environments. The role may involve occasional exposure to cold, hot, or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles.
