Anticipated TK-2 Professional School Counselor - John Cline Elementary

Position Overview

We are seeking a student-centered, proactive School Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral development of young learners. This role focuses on prevention, early intervention, and collaboration with staff and families to ensure all students have the skills and support they need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and small group counseling to support students’ social-emotional, behavioral, and problem‑solving skills
  • Respond to student needs, including crisis support and ongoing behavioral or emotional concerns
  • Deliver classroom lessons aligned to a comprehensive school counseling program (SEL, behavior, executive functioning)
  • Support MTSS implementation and use data to identify needs, guide decisions, and monitor progress
  • Collaborate with staff and families to problem‑solve and support student success
  • Participate in MTSS, behavior, and data team meetings
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records and assist with referrals to outside agencies
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field
  • Valid School Counselor license/certification in Iowa
  • Experience working with elementary‑aged students (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of child development, behavior, and social‑emotional learning
  • Ability to build relationships with students, staff, and families
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with MTSS, or trauma‑informed practices
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to balance responsiveness with proactive programming
  • Organized, flexible, and solution‑oriented

The salary will be based on the length and relevance of the candidate's work history and the skills developed through their professional experiences.
