Position Summary
The Admission Counselor is responsible for the recruitment, counseling, and admission of prospective students to Luther College. This position manages recruitment efforts within an assigned geographic territory and serves as a primary point of contact for prospective students and their families, school counselors, and community partners throughout the college search process. The counselor develops and executes a territory recruitment plan, evaluates applications, meets with individual students, presents to groups, communicates proactively, and participates in campus visit programs.
Active travel is required over both fall and spring recruitment seasons, with occasional overnight and weekend travel throughout the year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Territory Recruitment and Enrollment- Manage and implement a recruitment strategy for an assigned geographic territory.
- Build and maintain relationships with prospective students, families, high‑school counselors, community‑based organizations, and other key partners.
- Plan and conduct high‑school visits, attend college fairs and community events, and represent the college at other recruitment events.
- Monitor territory performance and adjust recruitment strategies based on enrollment goals and market conditions.
- Communicate with students and families via email, text, phone, virtual meetings, and in‑person interactions.
- Conduct admissions conversations with individual students and families.
- Provide accurate and timely information regarding academic programs, student life, financial aid, scholarships, and the admissions process.
- Assess and respond to student needs and opportunities throughout the recruitment process.
- Evaluate applications for admission in accordance with institutional policies and enrollment objectives.
- Maintain accurate records regarding admission and scholarship recommendations.
- Utilize the institution’s CRM for admissions processes, communication, and data analysis.
- Participate in the planning and execution of campus visit programs, off‑campus admitted student events, and other recruitment events.
- Assist with campus visit coverage, including counselor chats and event presentations.
- Serve as liaison to assigned departments and campus offices.
- Lead or contribute to strategic projects supporting enrollment goals, student recruitment, and visitor engagement.
- Participate in departmental planning, training, and assessment activities.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in any major required. Must have strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills. Familiarity with liberal arts colleges and fluency in a second language are desirable.
Experience:
One year of relevant experience preferred. Experience in sales, marketing, communication, counseling, or higher education is a plus. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record that will allow them to be insured through the college.
Essential skills include strong written and verbal communication, enthusiasm, goal‑orientation, self‑motivation, team orientation, and the ability to represent Luther energetically and positively to prospective students and families.
Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the college is expected.
Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentPosition requires regular travel throughout the year, including occasional overnight and weekend trips. In the office, work is sedentary, involving sitting, standing, and walking in well‑lighted and well‑ventilated spaces.
