EH&S Manager – Onsite (1st Shift)
Location:
Decorah, IA, USA. Salary exempt. Travel: approximately 5% of the time.
Lead the environmental health and safety (EH&S) functions for our plant, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations while fostering a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with plant leadership to develop, implement, and continuously improve EH&S programs and activities.
- Conduct accident investigations, analyze root causes, and implement preventive measures.
- Maintain EPA hazardous‑waste records and coordinate wastewater and air‑emission sampling.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant EH&S laws, including OSHA, EPA, and state permits.
- Track and resolve non‑compliance issues, reporting status to the Corporate EH&S Director.
- Administer required training and maintain documentation for programs such as SPCC, SWPPP, hazardous‑materials, lockout/tagout, and hearing conservation.
- Prepare permit applications, monitor limits, and maintain required records.
- Develop and maintain safety contingency plans for fires, spills, and other emergencies.
- Respond to EH&S inquiries, conduct routine audits, and serve as the technical consultant for environmental and safety matters.
- Act as the primary liaison between the plant and Corporate EH&S, as well as regulatory agencies.
- Support purchasing decisions by evaluating hazardous‑waste treatment facilities and consulting firms.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS), OSHA accident records, and coordinate loss‑control and medical evaluation activities.
- Complete EPA “Community Right‑to‑Know” SARA Section 313 and TSCA reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations, and experience with ISO 14001.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self‑motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
