Supervised by:

Director of Nursing/Assisted Living Manager

The Highlands Assisted Living is seeking a detail oriented and self motivated individual to assist tenants that live in our Assisted Living community. This individual should have a med manager certificate or be a CMA (Certified Medical Assistant).

Pay Range

$18.50 to $22.00

This job includes: cleaning of residents apartments and common areas, helping serve meals, laundry, and medication distribution.

This will normally be a schedule of every other weekend and holidays. The 8-hour shifts will vary from 6am start time to an 8pm end time, 2-3 shifts each week.

Performance Standards for Assisted Living Caregiver:
  • Follows established facility policies and procedures according to Federal and State regulations.
  • Requests clarification and or training for policies and procedures that are not clearly understood.
  • Assist new employees in following established facility policies and procedures.
  • Performs duties and delegations as assigned by an RN.
  • Identifies special tenant problems and reports them immediately to charge nurse.
  • Provides direct tenant care as assigned, completing assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Conducts tenant rounds daily and initiates corrective action as necessary and or seeks assistance of charge nurse or supervisor.
  • Identifies safety hazards and emergency situations and initiates corrective action immediately.
  • Provides personal care to tenants while upholding tenant rights.
  • Maintain cleanliness of tenant rooms assigned, following established facility policies and procedure.
  • Demonstrates an attitude of cooperation and enthusiasm during instruction and in tenant care activities.
  • Assumes personal responsibility for following facility procedures related to control of equipment, materials, methods and supplies within the unit.
  • Operates all equipment in a safe manner.
  • Assumes accountability for compliance to federal, state, and local regulations within the unit assigned and within the span of control of the Universal Worker.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult tenants.
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a tenant's condition
Physical and Sensory Requirements:

(with or without the aid of mechanical devices)

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
  • Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with tenants, personnel and support agencies.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disables, elderly, emotionally upset and at times, hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to life, push, pull, and move a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform manual labor for extended period of time.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of tenants.
Working Conditions:
  • Works throughout the nursing service area.
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during work hours.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Is involved with the tenants, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
  • Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset tenants, family members, personnel and visitors.
  • Communicates with other nursing personnel and other department personnel.
  • Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
  • Attends and participates in continuing education programs.
  • Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the work day.
  • Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.
