The Convenience Store Manager manages the daily operations of the convenience store in a manner that optimizes profitability, market share, operational efficiency, employee performance, and customer satisfaction while supporting the cooperative's mission and goals.
Essential Functions Leadership & Supervision- Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, train, and retain qualified employees.
- Develop employee work schedules and manage staffing levels based on business needs.
- Delegate responsibilities and monitor employee performance.
- Conduct coaching, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and performance improvement plans.
- Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and excellent customer service.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Approve employee time off and monitor attendance.
- Promote employee safety and professional development.
- Oversee all daily store operations.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, OSHA, food safety, and health department regulations.
- Maintain accurate cash handling procedures and reconciliation.
- Monitor security procedures and loss prevention efforts.
- Ensure proper opening and closing procedures.
- Prepare operational reports and maintain required documentation.
- Maintain accurate employee records and scheduling.
- Develop and manage annual operating budgets.
- Monitor sales, margins, labor costs, shrink, and operating expenses.
- Analyze financial reports and implement improvement strategies.
- Recommend pricing strategies that remain competitive while meeting profitability goals.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Purchase merchandise and supplies.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels.
- Verify deliveries for quantity, pricing, and quality.
- Monitor inventory turnover and minimize shrinkage.
- Ensure proper product rotation and freshness.
- Remove obsolete or expired inventory.
- Implement promotional programs and seasonal merchandising.
- Monitor local competition and pricing.
- Assist with advertising and community marketing initiatives.
- Support cooperative-sponsored promotions and events.
- Ensure exceptional customer service standards.
- Resolve customer complaints professionally and promptly.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming store environment.
- Build positive relationships with customers and the community.
- Maintain a safe working environment for employees and customers.
- Conduct routine facility inspections.
- Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Ensure all equipment operates safely and efficiently.
- Maintain cleanliness inside and outside the facility.
- Complete reports accurately and on time.
- Maintain payroll and scheduling records.
- Ensure proper documentation of incidents and safety concerns.
- Maintain confidentiality of employee and business information.
- Support other departments as needed.
- Participate in meetings and training.
- Perform additional duties assigned by management.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in business, retail management, or related field preferred.
- Three to five years of retail or convenience store management experience preferred.
- Previous supervisory experience required.
- Strong leadership and coaching skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
- Budgeting and financial management experience.
- Inventory management experience.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and point-of-sale systems.
- Ability to make sound business decisions.
- Food safety certification.
- Experience with convenience store merchandising.
- Experience managing fuel operations.
- Experience with inventory management software.
- Knowledge of OSHA and food safety regulations.
