Job Summary:

The Clerk is responsible for delivering excellent customer service while accurately processing retail transactions and supporting daily store operations. This position receives merchandise, handles customer payments, maintains approved charge accounts, and ensures the store environment remains clean, organized, and safe.

The Clerk represents the cooperative in daily interactions with members and customers and is expected to conduct all duties with professionalism and integrity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greet customers promptly and courteously.
  • Accurately total purchases and process cash, check, credit card, debit card, and approved charge transactions.
  • Maintain accurate cash drawer and reconcile transactions at shift end.
  • Receive, verify, and stock merchandise in accordance with store procedures.
  • Restock hot case with freshly prepared food items, following food safety guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records for approved charge accounts, including Farmers Win Coop truck accounts.
  • Answer telephone calls and respond to customer inquiries in a professional manner.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work areas, including restrooms, counters, floors, parking lot, and fuel areas.
  • Monitor store and fuel areas for safety concerns and report maintenance issues immediately.
  • Follow all safety, food handling, and loss prevention procedures.
  • Comply with all cooperative policies and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Credit Policy
  • Clearly communicate cooperative credit terms to customers.
  • Do not charge COD customers.
  • Do not extend credit without proper approval from the Credit Manager.
  • Ensure personal accounts remain current and in good standing.
Qualifications Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior retail or customer service experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Basic math and cash-handling proficiency.
  • Working knowledge of point-of-sale (POS) systems.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Dependable and self-motivated.
  • Primarily works in a climate-controlled retail environment with periodic outdoor exposure, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Other Duties

The Clerk will uphold cooperative policies, perform other duties as assigned by management, and will enforce and uphold the cooperative’s credit policy.
