Position Overview

In alignment with the mission of Dedham Public Schools to promote excellence in learning, self-discipline, and motivation, the High School Science Teacher fosters a dynamic, inquiry-driven classroom environment. This role emphasizes scientific thinking, collaboration, and culturally responsive practices to support diverse learners and cultivate an inclusive, safe, and engaging learning community.

Key Responsibilities

* Teach five sections of high school science aligned with the 2016 Massachusetts Science and Technology/Engineering (STE) Frameworks

* Design and implement engaging, phenomena-based lessons that integrate science practices and real-world applications

* Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, linguistic, and social-emotional needs of all students

* Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes equity and student voice

* Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary and vertically aligned curriculum

* Use assessment data to inform instruction, monitor student progress, and adjust teaching strategies as needed

* Participate in department, building, and IEP meetings, as well as parent/guardian conferences

* Maintain consistent, effective communication with families to support student success

* Uphold laboratory safety standards and ensure proper use of equipment and materials

* Support and implement district and school-based initiatives

Qualifications

Required:

* Massachusetts DESE licensure in High School Science (Grades 9-12) in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related field

* Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement

* Knowledge of the 2016 MA STE Frameworks

Preferred:

* Experience with phenomena-based or storyline-driven curriculum design

* Familiarity with inclusive instructional practices and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
