About us:New England Baptist Surgery Center is a state-of-the-art surgery center providing comprehensive orthopedic care for a range of ambulatory services, including total joint surgery and pain management procedures. We have 8 operating rooms and 25 pre‑and post‑operative bays.

Position Summary:Instructs pre‑ and post‑surgical patients in routine ambulation and transfers with/without an assistive device according to post‑operative guidelines provided by the performing surgeon. Provides and instructs patients with post‑operative precautions and pre‑developed, post‑operative rehabilitation programs based on established post‑surgical protocols. Reports directly to Ambulatory Surgical Center Nursing staff.
- Appropriately fits crutches, walkers and canes for routine ambulation.
- Instructs patients in ambulation on level surfaces and stair climbing with appropriate assistive device.
- Instructs patient and/or family members in pre‑developed, post‑operative rehabilitation programs.
- Appropriately fits, instructs and educates patients and/or family members in the application and appropriate fit of all durable medical equipment (DME).
- Records accurate and appropriate information for charging and inventory control of DME.
- Instructs and educates patient and/or family members in the application and appropriate use of cryotherapy devices.
- Performs routine ambulation and transfers with/without an assistive device in a safe manner with patients.
- Understands orthopedic precautions and weight bearing statuses; utilizes appropriate precautions with patients for safe mobility.
- Appropriately documents all patient encounters.
- Demonstrates verbal communication to nursing and surgical staff regarding patient status and responses to interventions.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification required.
- Ability to correlate clinical data with patient’s care.
- Ability to set priorities.
- Ability to take direction from others and provide information that is clear, concise and promotes efficiency on the unit.
- Ability to communicate well with Physicians, Patients, Co‑workers, etc.
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility with assignments and schedule.
