POSITION SUMMARY

The Institute for Nonprofit Practice's Senior Grant Writer is the primary writer for all proposals, letters of intent, prospective funding scenarios, and donor reports. This role demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, a high level of organization, the ability to multitask, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The Senior Grant Writer understands the needs of grant-making organizations and presents the mission, values, capabilities, and brand of INP accordingly.

They are ultimately responsible for the overall quality, accuracy, and timeliness of all grant proposals and report submissions. INP currently has 30 institutional donors comprising local and national foundations and corporations with most gifts ranging from $100,000 - $2 million+, totalling $7 million+ in annual giving.

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Giving, the Senior Grant Writer is a key member of the development team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Writes approximately 30 proposals/LOIs and 30 reports per year, averaging just over 1 submission per week.
  • Oversees design, execution and analysis of prospect research for up to $1M of replacement and/or growth funds annually.
  • Prepares, submits, and tracks proposals and reports in accordance with each foundation's guidelines.
  • Maintains sound knowledge of INP's mission, programs, target population, and strategic vision for continuously improving proposals and written communications.
  • Serves as end-to-end project manager for all grant proposals and reports, driving each submission from initiation through final delivery.
  • Leads cross-functional coordination with program, finance, and leadership teams to source the data, impact narratives, and supporting documentation required for proposals and funder reports.
  • Develops and embodies the voice of INP ensuring that all proposals and donor reports reflect the values and culture of the organization.
  • Conducts follow-up communications with funders to provide additional materials as required or necessary.
  • Tracks and makes visible INP's commitment to funders.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintains a high level of attention to detail as it relates to managing philanthropic grants and proposals.
  • Maintains grant calendar along with common grant attachments.
  • Engages with contracted grant writers
  • Manages deadlines and timelines, as well as the collection of supporting materials and documentation, and accomplishes projects and tasks in the prescribed time frame.
  • Shares information with colleagues, including written solicitation strategies, and keeps colleagues informed as needed concerning program strategies and progress.
  • Assists with program and donor stewardship, planning and coordination of site visits, and the production and delivery of progress reports.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
