Position Purpose
The purpose of this Veterinarian Technician position is to provide excellent veterinary care to Vetco Total Care full‑service hospital patients and phenomenal customer care to owners. The Veterinary Technician represents the mission and values to all clients and partners. They set the tone for the technical and customer support team in the hospital and are responsible for fostering cohesion and motivation within the hospital partners.
EssentialJob Functions
The incumbent must be able to perform all the following duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments or walk‑ins; escort into an exam room; obtain weight and vital signs; record in the electronic medical record; begin documentation of the patient visit.
- Assist veterinarian with appointments (routine and emergency), surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia, under direct supervision.
- Perform patient restraint; obtain and process laboratory samples; handle and dispense medications as directed; maintain the electronic medical record.
- Schedule appointments; communicate with and educate clients; relay test results; manage inventory and client/patient records; manage accounts receivable.
- Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures; safely support anesthetized patients; monitor during recovery; prepare for discharge or transfer.
- Provide in‑hospital treatments for sick patients (injectable, oral, intravenous); keep patients clean, watered, fed; safely walk canine patients for elimination.
- Participate in training of new staff members and disseminate knowledge as required.
- Keep hospital environment neat and clean; perform regular cleaning per schedule.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Provide backup phone and front desk support as needed.
The Veterinary Technician reports to the veterinarian and the Hospital Office Manager or Hospital Leader on Duty, and for overall supervision, takes direction from the Hospital Office Manager.
Education and Experience- College or college‑equivalent education completed, required to become a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in the state.
- At least 1 year of previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or working in a veterinary practice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Compassionate, professional attitude during emotional and stressful situations.
- Telephone and computer skills.
- Team player willing to learn new techniques, offer creative ideas, and accept change.
Majority of duties conducted in the Vetco Total Care full‑service hospital. Requires bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods. Much time spent in direct contact with clients and pets.
ContactsRegular communication with clients, veterinary specialists, and product/service companies.
Salary RangeHourly or salary range: $20.50 - $33.00. Pay may vary based on location, experience, and applicable wage laws.
