Role Summary
Modern Packaging is seeking an Electrical Controls Engineer to bring a hands‑on, customer‑focused mindset to support our installed base of automated packaging equipment. This role focuses on electrical troubleshooting, controls retrofits & upgrades, field service support, and customer issue resolution. The position reports to the Manager of Controls Engineering and is based on‑site in Deer Park, NY, with regular travel to customer locations.
Responsibilities- Diagnose & resolve electrical and controls issues on existing packaging equipment.
- Provide technical support to field service technicians and customer service teams.
- Design and implement retrofit solutions, including schematic updates and control system upgrades.
- Travel to customer facilities for installation support, system diagnostics, and retrofit implementation.
- Document changes and create updated schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Program and modify PLCs, HMIs, and servo systems to enhance machine functionality.
- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to analyze recurring issues and develop long‑term solutions.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 3+ years of experience with electrical controls systems, ideally in the packaging or automation industry.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting PLC and HMI systems (Allen‑Bradley/Rockwell preferred).
- Hands‑on experience with AutoCAD Electrical and control panel schematics.
- Willingness to travel domestically for on‑site customer support (approx. 10‑15%).
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working directly with customers and field teams.
- Experience with retrofit projects or aftermarket support in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with UL, NEMA, and CE standards.
- Knowledge of servo motor systems and industrial networking.
Up to 15% travel within North America.
Base Salary Range$105,000 - $120,000
