We're partnering with an organization in East Houston to seek an Assistant Controller who is looking for a long-term opportunity with a clear path for growth. This role is designed as a succession plan, with the opportunity to transition into the Controller position following a structured knowledge transfer and training period.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting leader who enjoys improving processes, mentoring teams, and partnering with leadership to drive financial excellence.
Responsibilities
:
- Lead the monthly close process, general ledger activities, and account reconciliations.
- Prepare accurate financial statements, business unit reporting, and P&L analysis.
- Oversee Revenue Recognition (ASC 606) and Lease Accounting (ASC 842).
- Manage Work in Progress (WIP), project accounting, cost accounting, and contract accounting for Time & Material and Fixed Price projects.
- Review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure GAAP compliance.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis initiatives.
- Oversee Accounts Payable processes, coding accuracy, and internal controls.
- Partner with Regional Controllers and executive leadership on financial reporting and strategic initiatives.
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Drive process improvements, reporting automation, and ERP system enhancements.
- Mentor and develop the accounting team while fostering a collaborative environment.
Qualifications
:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
- CPA preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong experience with ASC 606 Revenue Recognition and ASC 842 Lease Accounting
. - Experience with WIP accounting, project accounting, and cost accounting.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills and Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Experience with Vista Viewpoint is highly preferred.
- Industrial contracting or service industry experience is a plus.
- Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
