Laboratory Day Tech provides support and leadership to ensure that the lab is functioning efficiently and able to provide accurate, reliable, and timely results to support production units and ensure final products meet all quality requirements. The La Porte quality control laboratories consist of a polymers laboratory supporting polyethylene production and a chemicals laboratory supporting acetyls, olefins, and syngas production. This job positing is for a laboratory day tech in the polymers laboratory.

A

Day in the Life
  • Accountable for personal safety, the safety of co‑workers and promoting a safe work environment.
  • Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
  • Conduct and document the verification and calibrations of various lab equipment.
  • Perform non‑routine specialty analyses in accordance with test methods.
  • Prepare standards and equipment required for sample analysis.
  • Mentor shift technicians on various methods and equipment.
  • Assist quality analyst with quality audits and investigations.
  • Understand Sample Manager application and workflow.
  • Work with Chemist & Supervisor on implementation of new technologies, including installation, calibration and validation of new test equipment or methods.
  • Document lab methods and processes by writing, reviewing and editing lab procedures.
  • Understand targets on intermediate streams, product specifications on finished products, and the specific testing requirements for each.
  • Manage inventory of spare parts and consumables for the laboratory.
  • Manage laboratory safety and environmental tasks.
  • Write permits for laboratory and building maintenance.
  • Assist supervisor with hazardous and non‑hazardous sample shipments.
You Bring This Value
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalency
  • Minimum of 8 years experience performing polymer testing and wet chemistry in a petrochemical manufacturing facility or related industrial experience.
  • Must possess strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Must be willing and able to work 10‑hour days and provide occasional overtime coverage.
  • Must be willing and able to work occasional plant call‑outs.
  • Understand computer use in the QC laboratories, including computer‑controlled instrumentation.
  • Must be willing and able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be willing and able to work in environments that require frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Must be capable of climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working from elevated platforms.
  • Possess a professional attitude.
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
