Dirt Equipment Operator Heavy

OVERVIEW

Operates several types of construction equipment, including heavy dirt equipment.

• Operates light construction equipment such as air tuggers, air compressors, water pumps, generators, elevators, forklifts, small cranes and other similar equipment.
• May also operate heavy construction equipment if qualified.
• Turns valves, shifts levers, turns hand wheels and depresses pedals to drive machines and control equipment and attachments.
• Performs maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing and oiling machines and equipment.
• Occasionally performs mechanical repairs on machines and equipment.
• Knows manufacturer's specifications and limitations applicable to the operation of any and all heavy equipment, such as load capacities, operating speeds, special hazard warnings and instructions.
• Knows standard hand signals and is knowledgeable of pertinent OSHA regulations.
• Primary responsibility is to operate Bulldozer and Grade All as directed by supervisors.

Minimum of four (4) years as an Equipment Operator in refinery, chemical, petrochemical or similar plant construction or maintenance, performing work described herein.

Must read and understand safety instructions, signs and labels; follow verbal and written instructions; and pass a craft‑specific test.

Must have a current valid driver’s license and a three (3) year clear driving history.

Must pass a specific Operator Certification Test at jobsite.

• U.S. citizenship required.

Ability to effectively verbally communicate directions from craft supervisors and respond to questions from clients, managers and fellow workers.

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Normal work environment will be construction sites within operating plants, requiring exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals and airborne particles.

Must work easily and skillfully with hands, lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds, see and hear well (with or without correction), and recognize safety alarms and signals. Must climb and maintain balance on high ladders and scaffolds, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work outdoors in extreme weather conditions associated with refinery, chemical, or petrochemical facilities. Must be medically cleared for respirator usage and wear properly fitting respirators, including fall protection equipment when required.
