Instrument Technician - Austin Industrial

Responsibilities- Install, test, calibrate, troubleshoot, overhaul, and repair electrical, controlling, indicating, and measuring instrument devices to ensure specified operating performance using hand tools, testing equipment, and precision measuring instruments.
- Read and understand manuals, wiring or instrumentation schematics, and testing specifications.
- Diagnose electric motors, install wiring to circuits, and use knowledge of electrical schematics and PLCs.
- Layout, fabricate, and install tubing and tub trays.
- Apply mathematical principles to instrumentation, such as ratios, proportions, unit conversions, and engineering calculations.
- Read blueprints, schematics, loop drawings and prepare job reports.
- Assemble and disassemble all types of electronic process controls, pneumatic controls, and hydraulic systems.
- Calibrate equipment using common calibration procedures and interpret additional procedures as required.
- Understand principles of pH, redox, and equipment needed to measure and control them.
- Apply Ohm’s Law, Kirchhoff’s Law, and use electrical components such as diodes, capacitors, and other components.
- Understand steam behavior, including saturation properties, and apply principles of chemistry and physics such as density, mechanical advantages, and phase changes.
- Troubleshoot and check electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using proper test equipment.
- Understand fundamental instrumentation loops and the function of each component.
- Know common chemical plant process equipment such as distillation columns, heat exchangers, boilers, turbines, and compressors.
- Apply procedures for measuring pressure, flow, temperature, weight, density, heat flux, humidity, and moisture.
- Maintain current electrician’s license or identification card to meet state regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Employees are regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms; stand, walk, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. Employees must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
QualificationsExperience
4 years of Journeyman level experience.
Certification / LicenseNCCER, a Valid TWIC Card, and Driver’s License.
