turner industries is seeking experienced ironworkers for nested capital projects work in deer park, tx.

  • relocation and per diem are not available; candidates must be local to deer park, tx.
  • 4‑10 work schedule through dec 2026 with some overtime available
  • twic required
  • must pass pre‑employment background check, health/drug screening
  • nccer certification highly preferred
general job description

the ironworker position works as a member of a crew to raise, place and unite girders, columns and other structural‑steel members to form completed structures and frameworks. The role is non‑exempt, reports to the foreman, and duties are assigned according to specific procedures with work checked frequently.

functional requirements
  • offloads deliveries of structural material from the fabricator
  • sets up and breaks down hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural‑steel members
  • fastens steel members to cable of hoist
  • signals worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member
  • guides member or rides on member to guide it into position
  • pulls or pries steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device
  • forces members into final position
  • aligns holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member
  • verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members
  • bolts aligned members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted
  • cuts steel members to make alterations
  • performs additional assignments per supervisor's direction
qualification standards
  • high school or equivalent
  • one to four years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)
  • knowledge of ironworker tools and how to use them
  • rigging skills including wire rope slings
  • some job sites may require nccer certification
  • written pre‑employment qualification test
  • post‑offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
  • job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.)
  • safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)
  • applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace
physical involvement

may be required to climb ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc., above and below ground level; maintain balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc.; reach in all directions; handle and manipulate objects and materials; coordinate the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lift 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carry objects, tools, equipment, etc.;

stand, sit, walk, push, pull, bend, kneel, crouch/squat; see with or without correction; hear with or without correction; wear respirator and other ppe; work in excessive heat; work in excessive cold; work in loud environment.

mental involvement

may be required to follow set procedures and standards; follow oral or written directions; possess knowledge of federal, state and company standards and regulations; be able to read and write; recognize and report safety hazards; interpret written plans and blueprints; apply basic mathematical skills; plan work and select proper tools; compare and understand differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects;

picture and evaluate solid objects from drawing or diagrams; communicate with others effectively; work in a team and get along with others; learn new tasks; remember processes, maintain focus, and complete tasks; remain calm under pressure; manage time and expectations across multiple projects; ensure that work is done consistently and in compliance with directions.

  • location: industrial maintenance and construction sites and/or fabrication shop
  • mobility barriers to access job site: uneven ground level; obstructed pathways; work performed at low and/or high elevations; work performed in confined areas
  • climatic/environmental conditions at job site: predominantly outdoor climate; may be exposed to extreme hot or cold weather, excessive humidity, rain, etc.; various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment; potential exposure to chemical substances
