About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team in Deerfield Beach, FL. This is a full-time, office-based position focused on heavy civil construction, large earthwork, and site development projects. The ideal candidate will have experience preparing competitive estimates for grading, excavation, utilities, and site development work, along with proficiency in industry-standard estimating software.

Note:

This position is not focused on vertical/commercial building construction. Candidates whose experience is primarily in vertical construction (commercial, residential, or high-rise buildings) will not be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for large earthwork and site development projects.
• Review civil plans, specifications, and contract documents to determine project scope.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, grading, utilities, paving, and site development.
• Solicit, review, and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
• Develop competitive bid proposals while ensuring estimate accuracy and profitability.
• Analyze labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor costs.
• Resolve cost discrepancies through detailed analysis and value engineering where appropriate.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field operations during the estimating process.
• Maintain current knowledge of market pricing, construction methods, and industry trends.
• Support bid submissions and maintain organized estimating documentation.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent industry experience.
• 2+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction, earthwork, or site development.
• Strong understanding of civil construction estimating principles.
• Experience estimating projects involving mass grading, excavation, earthwork, site utilities, roadway/site paving, and site development.
• Ability to read and interpret civil engineering drawings, grading plans, and specifications.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid (strongly preferred).
• Experience using Agtek earthwork software.
• Experience with Trimble Business Center (TBC) or other Trimble estimating/modeling software.
• AutoCAD experience.
• Experience with quantity takeoffs and civil estimating software.
• Knowledge of heavy equipment production rates and earthwork calculations.
