Work Location: Deerfield Park Elementary, Deerfield Beach, Florida
Position OverviewTo provide the highest quality care and supervision to students in the Broward County School System, supporting classroom instruction and individualized education programs.
Responsibilities- Work under the direct supervision of a teacher to create instructional materials.
- Supervise and escort students throughout the school, ensuring safety and welfare.
- Provide classroom‑related clerical support (daily notes, student folders, data collection).
- Prepare and use instructional materials and teaching aids under teacher direction.
- Engage in housekeeping activities to keep the classroom safe and free of obstructions.
- Assist with lunchroom activities and dine with students as needed.
- Assist with supervising nap and rest periods as needed.
- Provide care for children when the teacher is not present for no more than 30 minutes (excluding substitute teaching).
- Construct and design specific items for tests and worksheets per teacher guidelines.
- Follow up lessons as directed by the teacher.
- Supervise small group discussions and activities among students.
- Assist individual students as assigned by the teacher.
- Utilize programs with groups of students.
- Perform daily living activities, including personal hygiene and restroom functions; assist with mobility, feeding, adaptive equipment; provide behavioral assistance such as implementing PBIP and crisis management.
- Perform all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies of the School Board of Broward County, Florida.
- Participate in training programs to enhance individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
- Review current developments, literature, and technical sources related to job responsibilities.
- Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
- Follow federal, state, and School Board policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
- High school diploma or acceptable GED completion.
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with children.
- Computer skills as required for the position.
- Completion of the Principal of Teaching (formerly Teacher Assistant) curriculum at designated technical college in Broward County School District.
- Passing score on the Para Pro Test or other officially sanctioned standard tests (reading/language arts, writing, mathematics, or readiness).
- An earned associate degree from an accredited institution, or at least 60 semester hours of earned college credit.
- Bilingual skills.
Medium work:
Exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, or 10 pounds as needed to move objects.
Salary range: $15.84 – $22.51 per hour, consistent with the district’s approved compensation plan. The minimum salary will be the lower end of the range. Shift differential: none. Classifies as non-exempt. Work year length and hours are established by the School Board. Typical 189‑day calendar.
