We are seeking an experienced Civil 3D Designer to support civil site development and stormwater management projects. In this role, you will prepare detailed construction documents with a strong focus on grading and drainage design for a variety of civil and building projects, including retail petroleum sites, gas stations, marina fueling facilities, and above- and below-ground petroleum storage systems. Depending on your experience and interests, you may also contribute to stormwater modeling using industry-standard software.

You will join a small, collaborative team that manages the full design and permitting process, offering the opportunity to work on projects from concept through construction.

Responsibilities

+ Develop detailed civil construction drawings and plans for civil site development projects, including grading, drainage, and utility layouts.

+ Produce accurate grading and drainage designs that support stormwater management and site functionality.

+ Support the full design and permitting process for civil and building projects related to retail petroleum facilities, gas stations, marina fueling sites, and above- and below-ground petroleum tanks.

+ Prepare and update civil site plans using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, ensuring all drawings meet project specifications and applicable standards.

+ Interpret survey data, topographic information, and engineering calculations to create accurate and constructible site designs.

+ Collaborate with civil engineers, structural designers, architectural drafters, and permitting staff to coordinate design details and resolve design issues.

+ Assist with stormwater modeling using software such as ICPR, POND, HydroCAD, or similar tools, depending on experience and project needs.

+ Develop and refine land development and civil engineering design details, including site grading, drainage, and stormwater systems.

+ Review drawings and designs for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with project requirements and regulatory guidelines.

+ Manage drafting tasks to meet project deadlines, maintaining strong attention to detail and quality in all deliverables.

+ Support permitting documentation by providing accurate plans and design information for submittals.

+ Participate in internal design reviews and incorporate feedback into revised plans and models.

Essential Skills

+ Minimum of 3+ years of experience in civil site development or civil/site drafting.

+ Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D for civil site design and drafting.

+ Experience in grading design and the preparation of grading plans.

+ Experience in drainage design and the preparation of drainage plans.

+ Working knowledge of stormwater modeling software such as ICPR, POND, HydroCAD, or similar tools.

+ Ability to interpret survey data, topographic information, and engineering calculations for use in civil design.

+ Experience in land development and civil engineering design for site development projects.

+ Demonstrated civil drafting and civil CAD skills for producing construction documents.

+ Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining strong attention to detail and design accuracy.

+ Effective collaboration skills to work closely with engineers, drafters, and permitting staff.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+

Experience with retail petroleum and fueling facilities such as gas stations, airports, fleet fueling sites, and truck stops.

+ Familiarity with underground fuel storage systems and associated site constraints.

+

Experience with Florida land development or stormwater permitting processes.

+ Experience in civil engineering, civil design, or civil engineering design is beneficial.

+ Exposure to both civil and building-related design work, particularly for fueling and petroleum-related facilities.

+ Interest in supporting stormwater modeling and expanding expertise with tools such as ICPR, POND, HydroCAD, or similar software.

+ Ability to thrive in a smaller-office environment with direct interaction across engineering, construction, and environmental disciplines.

Work Environment

The role is based in a small, established office in South Florida that has been operating since 1995. The main office is located in Lakeland and includes three primary departments: engineering, construction, and environmental, with a total staff of approximately 15-20 people. The local office you will join consists of about eight team members, including civil and structural design professionals, architectural drafters, a permitting technician, a traffic engineer, a civil professional engineer, and administrative support.

You will work closely with this tight-knit group, benefiting from short decision-making chains and minimal bureaucracy compared to larger organizations. The position is full-time, in-office, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some flexibility when needed. The environment emphasizes collaboration, professional growth, and exposure to the full project…
