As a Retail Assistant Manager
, you play an essential leadership role in realizing our mission. You will assist the General Manager in operating a thriving Pet Care Center, guiding team members, caring for animals, and providing outstanding service to our customers.

- Assist in hiring, onboarding, training, and ongoing employee development.

- Support day-to-day operations to ensure efficient workflows.
- Lead from the sales floor to drive sales and service goals.
- Analyze store performance and discuss findings with the General Manager.
- Help with inventory management, merchandising, and promotional activities.
- Take charge of leadership decisions in the absence of the General Manager.
- Address customer concerns promptly and professionally.
- Pets receive the necessary care and are safe in accordance with Petco's standards.
- Customers enjoy friendly, informative, and solution‑oriented service.
- Team members feel encouraged and supported.
- The Pet Care Center operates smoothly, is visually appealing, and consistently meets performance benchmarks.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years in retail, ideally in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
- Proven expertise in leading and motivating a team.
- Strong problem‑solving abilities and decision‑making skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Familiarity with point‑of‑sale systems and Microsoft Office.
- A passion for animals and a good understanding of pet care is highly desired.
This position is primarily located in a Pet Care Center retail environment
. The Assistant Manager should regularly be present on the sales floor, demonstrating leadership through engagement with team members, customers, and pets.
- Work is mostly indoors, but occasional outdoor tasks may include bank deposits or community events.
- The role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Regular customer interaction through assisting on the sales floor, as well as performing cashiering tasks.
- Must be comfortable working around animals and exposure to associated cleaning chemicals.
- Flexible schedule to accommodate Pet Care Center hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- This is a full‑time role, and eligibility is based on average hours worked.
- Some travel may be required for training or community outreach.
