As a Retail Assistant Manager
, you play an essential leadership role in realizing our mission. You will assist the General Manager in operating a thriving Pet Care Center, guiding team members, caring for animals, and providing outstanding service to our customers.

• Ensure adherence to Petco's high animal care standards for the health and safety of all creatures.
• Create a welcoming and safe environment for pets, pet parents, and team members.
• Make decisions with integrity and compassion that benefit pets and their families.

• Inspire and engage team members to provide exceptional service and strengthen customer loyalty.
• Assist in hiring, onboarding, training, and ongoing employee development.
• Offer timely feedback and recognition to cultivate performance and motivation.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing store that reflects Petco's values.

• Support day-to-day operations to ensure efficient workflows.
• Lead from the sales floor to drive sales and service goals.
• Analyze store performance and discuss findings with the General Manager.
• Help with inventory management, merchandising, and promotional activities.
• Take charge of leadership decisions in the absence of the General Manager.
• Address customer concerns promptly and professionally.

• Pets receive the necessary care and are safe in accordance with Petco's standards.
• Customers enjoy friendly, informative, and solution‑oriented service.
• Team members feel encouraged and supported.
• The Pet Care Center operates smoothly, is visually appealing, and consistently meets performance benchmarks.

• Minimum of 2 years in retail, ideally in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
• Proven expertise in leading and motivating a team.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and decision‑making skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Familiarity with point‑of‑sale systems and Microsoft Office.
• A passion for animals and a good understanding of pet care is highly desired.

This position is primarily located in a Pet Care Center retail environment
. The Assistant Manager should regularly be present on the sales floor, demonstrating leadership through engagement with team members, customers, and pets.

• Work is mostly indoors, but occasional outdoor tasks may include bank deposits or community events.
• The role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Regular customer interaction through assisting on the sales floor, as well as performing cashiering tasks.
• Must be comfortable working around animals and exposure to associated cleaning chemicals.
• Flexible schedule to accommodate Pet Care Center hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• This is a full‑time role, and eligibility is based on average hours worked.
• Some travel may be required for training or community outreach.
