Job DescriptionThe Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for driving and retaining commercial HVAC work within their assigned territory. This includes securing individual replacements, plan‑and‑spec projects, and long‑term commercial partnerships. The BDM will engage with a wide range of mechanical companies, from small 1‑2 person operations to large firms, positioning our company as the preferred provider for commercial HVAC solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Business Development & Sales Growth
- Proactively identify and pursue new commercial HVAC opportunities, including individual replacements and plan‑and‑spec projects.
- Develop and maintain relationships with mechanical contractors, engineers, facility managers, and decision‑makers.
- Conduct regular in‑person and virtual meetings with potential and existing clients.
- Drive commercial work into the company by positioning our products and services effectively.
- Territory Management & Market Strategy
- Analyze market trends, competition, and customer needs to develop strategic sales approaches.
- Maintain a strong presence in the local commercial HVAC community through networking, trade shows, and industry events.
- Track and report sales metrics, opportunities, and pipeline progress within the territory.
- Customer Relationship Management
- Act as the primary contact for contractors and mechanical firms, providing limited technical support and sales expertise.
- Establish long‑term partnerships to ensure repeat business and customer loyalty.
- Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally to maintain satisfaction and retention.
- Collaboration & Team Support
- Work closely with the internal sales, engineering, and operations teams to ensure seamless project execution.
- Provide feedback on product performance, pricing strategies, and market demands.
- Support company initiatives and sales programs aimed at increasing commercial market share.
- Required:
Minimum of 3‑5 years in HVAC sales, business development, or a related mechanical engineering role. - Strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems, applications, and project sales cycles.
- Proven ability to develop business relationships across all company sizes, from small contractors to large mechanical firms.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to travel within the assigned territory as needed.
- Revenue growth and new business acquisition within the territory.
- Retention rate of commercial clients and repeat business.
- Number of strategic partnerships developed.
- Sales pipeline activity and conversion rates.
The role is predominantly sedentary with occasional office work. Walking, standing, and sitting are frequent; no heavy lifting is required. The BDM may need to travel within the local area and operate a motor vehicle occasionally.
