Freight Specialist

The Freight Specialist is responsible for auditing, managing, and resolving freight claims and related transportation transactions. This role ensures accuracy in freight billing, processes claims for damaged or missing shipments, and addresses transportation-related negative transactions to minimize losses and maintain vendor/carrier accountability.

• Audit freight invoices and claims for accuracy and compliance with shipping agreements
• Investigate and process freight damage claims, loss claims, and billing discrepancies
• Manage freight-related expense documentation and maintain organized claim records
• Coordinate with carriers, vendors, and internal departments to resolve transportation issues
• Track and monitor resolution timelines to ensure timely claim settlement
• Identify trends in freight problems and recommend process improvements
• Reconcile shipping costs against contracted rates and identify overcharges
• Document all transactions and maintain audit trails for compliance purposes
• Assist in the management of third-party freight vendor and carrier processes
• Other duties as assigned.

In addition to the above responsibilities, this individual is held accountable for all other duties as assigned.

• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in transportation.
• Experience with ERP systems and business intelligence tools.
• Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel and data analysis.
• Strong phone presence, listening and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated computer skills and adaptability to new technology.
• Strong organization and time management skills.
• Solution oriented, self-starter and results oriented.
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
• Ability to meet assigned goals and objectives in designated time frames.
