Position: 26-219.A2 - Sr. Property Accountant

Job Objective

Seeking an analytical and detail-oriented accounting professional with experience in Property Accounting within the oil and gas industry. Skilled in managing capital projects, handling complex transactions including acquisitions and divestitures, ensuring GAAP compliance, and delivering accurate internal reporting. Proficient in SAP, with a strong focus on accuracy, cross‑functional collaboration, operational support, and continuous problem solving and innovation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare schedules, book entries for, review, and analyze property accounting items including: capital projects (all PPE accounts), asset retirement obligations, depreciation and depletion of oil and gas properties, depreciation of fixed assets, impairment of oil and gas properties, reserves reporting, inventory (materials and storage), and acquisitions and divestitures.
  • Perform monthly and quarterly close tasks related to the items above.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly internal financial deliverables, quarterly external financial deliverables, and review these deliverables for accuracy and reasonableness.
  • Translate and appropriately account for complex or technical accounting transactions regarding acquisitions and divestitures.
  • Prepare special reports and complete special projects by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information for executives, technical employees, and accountants.
  • Work with field personnel to provide additional information for special projects.
  • Understand internal and external reporting implications and the interworking of both internal and external reporting tools.
  • Interpret requests from the Operations team and translate them into accounting, and vice versa.
  • Assist with annual financial statement audits related to Property Accounting areas.
  • Research, troubleshoot, and develop solutions within SAP and various reporting tools.
  • Resolve issues brought forward by cross‑departmental teams.

Cross‑Functional Teamwork
  • Develop proficiency and knowledge of the following positions:
    External Financial Reporting Lead and Staff Accountants, Internal Financial Reporting Analyst.
Qualifications
  • Five years minimum experience in the oil and gas industry, specifically Property Accounting; public accounting experience preferred.
  • Ability to identify and analyze accounting and property reporting questions and develop responsive solutions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials, and the public.
  • Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities without close supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with specific ability to translate financial information into an organized and presentable manner.
  • Outstanding administrative and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook); strong working knowledge of SAP preferred.
Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four‑year university or college with a degree in accounting;
    Masters’s Degree in accounting, finance, or business preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
  • CPA preferred.
