Reports To: Child Care Director

Location: Deerfield High School

Salary: $55,000.00 annually (205 days/1640 hours)

Summary

Seeking a qualified preschool teacher with the responsibility of program planning and implementation, supervision, and education of 2 to 5-year-old pre-school children.

Qualifications
  • A Degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, or a related field and experience with young children is required.
  • Must meet DCFS requirements and be Director qualified.
  • Two or more years of early childhood work experience, preferred.
Essential Functions

  • Lead daily classroom set‑up and ensure the learning environment is organized, safe, and developmentally appropriate.
  • Plan, prepare, and implement age‑appropriate preschool curriculum and activities that support child development and learning goals.
  • Supervise, instruct, and engage participants in educational and recreational activities.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to assistant teachers and classroom support staff.
  • Foster positive interactions and relationships with children to support social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents and guardians regarding participant progress, behavior, and program activities.
  • Observe and assess participant behavior and development, implementing appropriate behavior management techniques and strategies.
  • Ensure classroom compliance with District policies, procedures, licensing requirements, and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records, attendance, incident reports, and other required documentation.
  • Provide high‑quality customer service in a professional manner that promotes teamwork and exceptional service to participants and families.
  • Maintain strong safety awareness and ensure adherence to all safety procedures and emergency protocols.
  • Attend and participate in meetings, in‑service training, conferences, and professional development opportunities related to child development, curriculum planning, classroom management, and leadership.
  • Serve as a positive role model and create an inclusive, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment.
Language Skills

Communicates clearly both in oral and written format with all constituents of the District 113 community. Effectively present information and respond to questions from constituency groups. Apply knowledge of current best practices relative to working in a preschool. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Mathematical

and Technical Skills

The ability to use additional software such as absence management, mandatory training and obtain personal data from Skyward, as needed. Infrequent use of Microsoft Office suite / Google Workspace.

Reasoning Ability

Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of verbal and written instructions and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.

Contacts Outside Your Own Department

Constituents of the District 113 community that includes, teachers, school staff, administrative team, Board of Education, guardians, students, and private providers.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, write, type, speak, listen, and taste or smell.
  • The employee is regularly required to communicate with staff and others.
  • The employee is frequently required to use hands and/or fingers, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls.
