5th Grade Teacher - Long-Term Substitute

The role of the 5th grade teacher in Deerfield 109 involves fostering confidence, building community, and igniting curiosity through challenging experiences and creative environments.

The job goal is to guide pupil progress toward established district standards, implement best-practice instructional techniques, adhere to curricular objectives, sustain an engaging and supportive learning environment, and demonstrate professional responsibilities.

Major duties and performance responsibilities include:

• Aligning content of lessons to common curriculum goals, content standards, and benchmark standards.
• Incorporating authentic, real world applications of knowledge and understanding in lessons.
• Collaborating with staff to identify innovative strategies to meet student learning needs.
• Planning for assessment of student learning and communicating results.
• Utilizing student data to inform instruction.
• Ensuring legal mandates are integrated into the classroom setting.
• Maintaining accurate records of critical student information.
• Preparing clear, detailed, and organized lesson plans for substitute teachers.

The teacher is responsible for maintaining a safe, student-centered classroom, developing a positive classroom culture, establishing classroom standards of conduct, and effectively communicating with parents, colleagues, and community stakeholders.

Appropriate integration of technology, ongoing self-assessment, and collaborative professional growth are also part of the role.

The teacher must possess a working knowledge of curriculum, subject content, and the developmental needs of students, engage in collaborative dialogue, communicate effectively, meet schedules and timelines, take professional initiative, plan and organize work independently, implement a student-centered approach to problem-solving and conflict-resolution, and work cooperatively with others.

The employee must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, complete a teacher preparation program, pass State proficiency exams, and maintain appropriate licensure.

The ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, solve practical problems, interpret technical instructions, and possess specific vision abilities are required.

The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear, taste, and smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

The work environment is inside an educational setting with occasional outdoor activities and is subject to noises associated with an educational environment. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students and may occasionally work in various school locations.
