Description

OCU Group continues to experience sustained growth across the UK water industry, and we are now looking for experienced Mechanical Fitters to join our expanding Water sector team based in Bridgend.

This is an opportunity to join a business delivering critical wastewater infrastructure and treatment projects, supporting the installation, maintenance, and refurbishment of mechanical systems across operational water and wastewater sites.

As a Mechanical Fitter within OCU’s Water sector, you will play a key role in delivering high‑quality mechanical installations and maintenance works, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and repair mechanical systems within wastewater infrastructure environments. This will include working on pumps, valves, pipework, motors, gearboxes, and associated mechanical equipment in line with technical drawings, specifications, and site requirements.
  • Carry out mechanical installation and assembly activities across wastewater treatment facilities, supporting both new installations and refurbishment projects. Also responsible for fault finding and diagnosing issues on mechanical equipment and fluid power systems, using appropriate tools and techniques to identify and resolve problems efficiently.
  • Work safely, particularly within live operational wastewater environments and confined spaces, ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with company procedures, industry regulations, and health and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, project managers, and wider site teams to ensure works are completed to programme and quality expectations.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Hands‑on mechanical fitting experience, ideally gained within the water or wastewater sector, and experience working on wastewater treatment projects.
  • Strong knowledge of pumps, pipework, valves, gearboxes, and associated mechanical systems.
  • Confidence using a range of hand and power tools for installation, assembly, and maintenance activities, with the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications effectively.
  • Recognised mechanical qualification required, alongside a valid CSCS card or equivalent safety certification. Knowledge of water hygiene standards and confined space working highly desirable.
  • Proactive team player with a strong focus on safety, quality, and delivering work to a high standard within fast‑paced operational environments.
