Intervention Specialist (Autism Focus)

Job Objective: Develops student learning experiences using differentiated curricula and instructional strategies.

Classroom program serves elementary students with high communication needs, low-incidence disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorders. Goal: help each student develop skills for full participation, communication, learning, relationships, and self-expression. Team:
Intervention Specialist, Instructional Assistants, Occupational and Speech Therapists, Behavior Consultant Specialist.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Holds required state department of education credentials.
  • Acts in accordance with the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators.
  • Minimum teaching degree with special education credentials.
  • Displays flexibility, reliability, self‑discipline, and willingness to take on challenging tasks.
  • Keeps a record free of criminal violations that prohibit public school employment.
  • Effective communication, problem‑solving, and time‑management skills.
  • Embodies high ethical standards and integrity; accepts responsibility for personal decisions and conduct.

Note: Employees must obtain training and maintain skills to fulfill compliance requirements applicable to the position as required by board policy and state/federal law.

Essential Functions
1. Maintain a thorough understanding of subject matter and pedagogy. Organize subject content and learning goals that support high levels of student achievement.
  • Work closely with other service providers to support unified classroom lessons.
  • Implement strategies to improve family involvement and support for program activities.
  • Prepare intervention materials; teach assigned students as scheduled.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with intervention goals.
  • Evaluate student academic needs and learning styles.
  • Differentiated instructional techniques to effectively advance student learning.
  • Facilitate the integration of new technology in all areas of the curriculum.
  • Use formal and informal assessment strategies to monitor student progress.
  • Use a data‑driven approach to analyze assessments and provide effective feedback to students.
  • Identify alternative approaches or accommodations as needed (e.g., differentiated curricula, equipment adaptations, extended time, study guides, reading/transcribing assistance).
  • Collaboratively identify and resolve problems that impede student learning; implement evidence‑based interventions that produce tangible benefits within defined time‑frames.
  • Conduct academic assessments for Evaluation Team Report (ETR) as requested.
  • Facilitate Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings; prepare draft and final IEPs.
  • Prepare and transmit legally compliant special education documents by required deadlines.
  • Advocate for students; facilitate inclusive educational opportunities for all students.
  • Help students make appropriate choices and improve personal skills; encourage creativity, critical thinking, cultural awareness, democratic values, empathy, ethical conduct, and self‑reliance.
  • Evaluate student achievement/performance; prepare progress reports and/or report cards.
  • Substantiate data on IEP goals/objectives as required.
  • Communicate academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional issues to parents/guardians.
  • Identify alternative assessment methods when warranted.
  • Ensure student lists and teaching materials are readily available for substitutes.
2. Exemplify professionalism to enhance NwOESC and district public images.
  • Diligently attend to job details; pursue quality work results; perform all aspects of the job.
  • Encourage community involvement in school‑sponsored activities.
  • Develop mutually respectful relationships with co‑workers; function as part of a cohesive team.
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance record; provide prompt notice of delays or absences.
  • Maintain a professional appearance; wear work attire appropriate for the position.
  • Participate in development of best practices and advancement of academic standards.
  • Respect privacy; resolutely maintain confidentiality of privileged information.
