Respiratory Therapist
When a patient has a severe respiratory condition in a Pro Medica hospital, a Registered Respiratory Therapist provides the care they need in a general, clinical, emergency and/or diagnostic care area.
In this role, you will frequently make independent decisions regarding therapy modifications in accordance with clinical practice guidelines, policies and procedures.
Accountabilities include achieving and maintaining competency to perform prescribed therapeutic and diagnostic procedures within their scope of practice, safely assembling, operating and troubleshooting therapeutic and diagnostic equipment required for patient care, understanding and applying Respiratory Care Clinical Practice Guidelines, providing educational needs of patients on disease specific process, tobacco cessation and respiratory care services provided, assisting with clinical instruction of respiratory care, nursing, medical students, and residents, understanding and acting in accordance with all Respiratory Care and Hospital Policies and procedures, completing accurate patient documentation, and performing other related duties as assigned or requested by leadership within the scope of training and practice.
Requirements include being a graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program, being a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), being licensed to render respiratory care services by the respective state(s) of practice – Ohio and/or Michigan, having BLS, and being dependable, reliable, and punctual in accordance with department attendance policy, including mandatory overtime and on-call rotation, as needed.
Preferred requirements include ACLS, NRP, and PALS certification, and membership in the American Association of Respiratory Care and other professional organizations.
