The work of the USRC centers undocumented students’ path to earning their degrees through programs and resources that support them, and all NIU students, in achieving their goals, find and utilize resources and see their dreams realized.
USRC is in need of temporary administrative support. We are for an Extra Help employee who will provide a broad administrative, operational, and program support for the Undocumented Student Resource Center. This position assists with center coverage coordination, assistance with scheduling student appointments, processes, event logistics, data collection, and general office operations. Work requires the ability to organize tasks, support staff and student employees, maintain confidentiality, and respond to a wide range of routine and non-routine office needs in a high-traffic student support environment that fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment.
- One-year experience working with undocumented or immigrant communities in an office environment.
- Bilingual written and spoken Spanish. Experience with reading and translating documents from English to Spanish and Spanish to English.
- Two years of work experience in a receptionist or administrative assistant role.
- Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite with advance experience using Outlook, Teams, and Excel.
- Experience supervising student employees or volunteers.
- Experience with event planning and project management.
- Experience with budgets, recordkeeping, or online systems.
- Experience processing payroll.
- Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite with advance experience using Outlook, Teams, and Excel.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends based on programming events. Typically scheduled in advance.
- Demonstrated advanced skill in customer service and management of office operations.
- Advanced skill in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and Excel.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of university processes for financial or contractual documentation.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including undocumented and mixed status students.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
- Ability to provide verbal and written communications.
- Must be able to sit at a computer for serval hours at a time.
- Must be able to carry items to presentations and tabling events, possibly a distance away from the event.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time, inside and outdoors
