Position: Internship Program Coordinator (2766)
With 18 departments and 5 centers spanning the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is the largest of NIU's six undergraduate colleges. By the nature of our mission, we touch virtually every new student to the university, regardless of their major, through the wide array of general education courses housed within our departments.

Position Summary

The Internship Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing all student-facing aspects of the NIU Mellon Foundation Humanities internship program. This will include promotion of internships, recruitment of internship hosts, engagement with host organizations, networking with humanities departments and centers to advance the goals of the internship program, assessment of internship experiences, and managing payroll and HR actions for internship appointments. This role will also serve as the liaison between CLAS and other organizations that support internship experiences such as Career Services, the CLAS Advisory Council, the Alumni Association, the NIU Foundation, and external employer partners for the purpose of furthering student career success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Internship Oversight - 33%

* Oversee internship management (appointments, payroll, etc.)

* Communicate opportunities for students

* Work closely with the Center for NGO and Nonprofit Studies to ensure the success of the project

Managing and Enhancing Internship Sites - 33%

* Solidify existing internship host site relationships

* Grow internship host sites

* Develop a community of nonprofits that participate in the NIU Mellon internship program through meet ups, newsletters, etc.

* Develop an assessment tool for evaluating host site experiences

Student Recruitment and Success - 30%

* Develop strategies to recruit students into the program

* Develop and implement assessment procedures

* Communicate regularly with participating NIU Departments and Centers about status of the project and opportunities for students

* Work with the project's advisory group as appropriate

* Work with NIU units such as the Alumni Association, NIU Foundation, and Career Services to advance shared goals

General Program Support - 4%

* Other related duties as assigned

Minimum

Required Qualifications (Civil Service)

* Bachelor's degree.

* A total of one (1) year (12 months) in education, training and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position. (

Note:

Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)

* Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) (Civil Service)

* Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects

* Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources

* Skill in analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.

* Skill in scheduling events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others.

* Skill in oral and written communication

* Ability to adjust actions in relation to others' actions.

Specialty Factors (Civil Service)

* An undergraduate degree in humanities or related field

* 1 year of experience in the nonprofit sector

* 1 year of supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications (Civil Service)

* 2-5 years of experience working in the nonprofit sector

* Advanced degree in the humanities or related field

* Experience with an internship at NIU, or supervising interns at a local nonprofit organization
