Position: Instructor of Voice - School of Music (38524)
Northern Illinois University (NIU) School of Music seeks a full-time Instructor to teach undergraduate and graduate voice, lead the Opera Scenes, provide vocal support for the annual Opera production and engage in recruitment.

The NIU School of Music is a vibrant facet of the NIU campus that prides itself on strong support of first-generation undergraduate students and provides readily available resources for faculty-directed study and research opportunities. Its distinguished faculty include Fulbright Scholars, Grammy Award winners, recipients of Chamber Music America and Mac Arthur Foundation grants, artists who have performed at leading venues such as Jazz at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and Avery Fisher Hall.,

and commercial recording artists who perform regularly at significant international and national venues.

Voice and opera faculty maintain strong professional connections, working with opera companies, vocal ensembles, and orchestras. NIU choral ensembles have been featured at national, regional, and state conferences and conventions.

Position Summary

The Instructor of Voice is responsible for delivering applied voice instruction to undergraduate and graduate students, leading opera performance activities, and supporting the School of Music's enrollment and recruitment goals.

Non-instructional duties:
Recruitment (3.5% FTE)

The academic year contract does not cover summer session appointments, which are contingent upon curricular demand and academic program determinations.

Should the assigned course(s) fail to enroll the minimum number of students as determined by the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA), the course(s) may be canceled. In the event of a course cancellation this contract may be voided or (in the case of multiple course assignments) reduced proportionally by the number of courses canceled. The decision to cancel a course shall be made no later than one week prior to the beginning of class.

It is understood that the compensation rate for this contract is based on student enrollment and may be adjusted based on the student enrollment upon the official 10-day count.

Minimum

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in music with professional experience, outstanding performance and teaching skills, and evidence of creative collaboration with diverse colleagues and students.

Additional Requirements

Applicants should be able to demonstrate and document a commitment to collegiate student success, particularly for first-generation and traditionally under-represented groups.

Preferred Qualifications

Terminal degree or equivalent professional achievement, experience teaching voice and other relevant curriculum at the collegiate level, and evidence of successfully recruiting music majors.
