Assistant Director of Student Conduct
The Assistant Director of Student Conduct is a leadership role within the Division of Student Affairs that supports the Director of Student Conduct in administering the university's non-academic student conduct system. Serving as the second-in-command, the Assistant Director oversees the investigation and adjudication of individual student conduct cases and leads investigations involving student organizations. The position focuses on promoting student accountability, ethical decision-making, and personal development through a student-centered conduct process that incorporates restorative practices and educational interventions.
The Assistant Director also provides guidance and support to students throughout the conduct process while helping to ensure compliance with university policies and behavioral standards. In collaboration with campus partners such as Fraternity and Sorority Life, Student Involvement, and Athletics, the Assistant Director develops and delivers proactive educational programs on topics including hazing prevention, risk management, healthy relationships, bystander intervention, and organizational accountability.
The role serves as a key resource for student organizations, advisors, and student leaders by providing training, consultation, and support related to conduct processes, leadership responsibilities, and risk reduction strategies. Additionally, the Assistant Director helps create leadership and intercultural learning opportunities, contributes to a safe and inclusive campus environment, and participates in an on-call rotation to address urgent conduct matters that may require immediate university action.
Minimum
Required Qualifications (Civil Service) - Bachelor's degree. A total of one (1) year (12 months) in education, training and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position. Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.
Note:
Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) (Civil Service) - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects. Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. Skill in analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
Skill in scheduling events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others. Skill in oral and written communication. Ability to adjust actions in relation to others' actions. Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense. Ability to develop specific goals, plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish tasks.
Ability to work effectively with staff, the public, and outside constituency groups. Ability to effectively plan, delegate, and supervise the work of others. Ability to utilize various computer software packages, such as Accounting Software, query, etc. Ability to work independently and exercise judgment in order to be able to analyze and investigate a variety of questions or problems. Ability to analyze and develop guidelines, procedures, and systems.
Specialty Factors (Civil Service) - Master's degree in college student personnel, counseling, higher education, higher education administration, student affairs administration, conflict resolution, or a related field. Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff. Knowledge of student disciplinary systems and higher education law. Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems.
Preferred Qualifications (Civil Service) - Two (2) years of experience in student conduct administration, preferably in housing and residential life conduct. Direct experience managing a caseload or other experience that demonstrates strong organizational skills and the ability to balance priorities and meet deadlines. Proficiency in Maxient (case management software). Sensitivity to student needs and the ability to relate to students, staff and the public.
Demonstrated interest in student conduct, student affairs, or a related field through academic preparation, internship, volunteer service, or comparable experience.
