NIU College of Law – Exam Proctor (Temporary, Part-Time)

Fully complete the Education and Work History sections of the application. Be specific on your entire work history, including the employment dates and duties for all positions held.

Current NIU students carrying six or more hours are not eligible for extra help employment.

Employment is contingent upon your passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.

Position Summary, Requirements, and Qualifications

The NIU College of Law seeks dependable and detail-oriented proctors to assist with administering final examinations. This temporary position is ideal for current NIU employees or retirees who would like to earn extra income while supporting the law school’s academic mission.

  • Attending a mandatory training session prior to the exam period
  • Arriving on time, preparing the exam room, and distributing exam materials
  • Announcing the start of the exam, allotted time, and periodic time warnings—especially as the end approaches
  • Monitoring the room attentively to ensure academic integrity, including walking the classroom at regular intervals without hovering
  • Maintaining a quiet, orderly testing environment
  • Collecting all exam materials and confirming that all have been turned in
  • Reporting any incidents or concerns to the designated exam administrator
Education/Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualification
  • Reliability, professionalism, and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to remain alert and engaged for extended periods
  • Comfort working in a quiet, structured testing environment
  • Prior proctoring or testing experience is a plus but not required
Physical Demands

This position requires staying alert and engaged during long, quiet periods with little activity.
