Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Controls
OverviewLHH is partnering with a manufacturing organization to identify a Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Controls to support and advance manufacturing operations through the design, implementation, and optimization of equipment, controls, and automation systems. This role supports fabrication, coating, and assembly operations and plays a key role in capital projects, new product introduction, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate has strong mechanical and controls experience, hands‑on involvement with automation and equipment programming, and the ability to work cross‑functionally in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities- Determine optimal manufacturing methods to maximize efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness
- Create, edit, and support PLC, PMC, and TP programs
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, controls, and automation‑related issues
- Design and modify electrical schematics for machine and equipment modifications
- Design, build, document, and assemble automation equipment and custom solutions
- Support production and assembly teams with building, wiring, testing, and commissioning of equipment
- Develop and test tooling, fixturing, and material handling solutions
- Provide onsite and remote technical support to production and maintenance personnel
- Execute and oversee modifications to control systems and automation equipment
- Prepare control diagrams and control panel layouts
- Support maintenance technicians to ensure mechanical and electrical equipment functionality
- Design production layouts and develop new manufacturing processes while maintaining quality standards
- Analyze and improve existing processes to increase efficiency and reduce production costs
- Implement safety and quality control measures across manufacturing processes
- Design, develop, and test mechanical components, machines, and equipment
- Specify electrical components for machines, equipment, and control systems
- Provide training and ongoing support to plant personnel on new equipment and processes
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience troubleshooting and designing manufacturing equipment
- Extensive experience with 3D CAD design tools
- Experience with CNC equipment, punch presses, fiber lasers, robotics, PLCs, and welding processes
- Experience programming or supporting equipment including lasers, robots, sensors, and PLCs
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Six Sigma principles
- Experience with facility layout, process design, PFMEA, and DOE
- Ability to communicate effectively across all organizational levels, from shop floor to executive leadership
- Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and drive projects to completion
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to develop creative solutions that provide a competitive technological advantage
- Ability to travel up to 10 percent as required
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Education and Experience- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing engineering experience designing equipment, tooling, or fixtures
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD
- Experience with or understanding of MRP systems preferred
- Design of tooling and fixturing and specification of manufacturing equipment
- Experience with DFA, FMEA, DOE, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma tools
- Ability to work effectively under compressed timelines
The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $130,000 annually. Compensation is based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
This position may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. Bonus eligibility and amount are based upon company and/or individual performance.
