The Massage Therapist is a qualified professional who has a working knowledge of neuromuscular therapy, anatomy, physiology, and range of motion testing.
The Massage Therapist treats patients by using touch to manipulate the soft tissues of the body. With their touch, therapists relieve pain, help rehabilitate injuries, improve circulation, relieve stress, increase relaxation, and aid in the general wellness of patients.

The Massage Therapist is a qualified professional who has a working knowledge of neuromuscular therapy, anatomy, physiology, and range of motion testing.
The Massage Therapist treats patients by using touch to manipulate the soft tissues of the body. With their touch, therapists relieve pain, help rehabilitate injuries, improve circulation, relieve stress, increase relaxation, and aid in the general wellness of patients.
- Talks with patients about symptoms, medical history, and desired results.
- Uses touch to treat patient’s injuries and to promote general wellness. Use hands, fingers, forearms, elbows, and sometimes feet to knead muscles and soft tissues of the body.
- Provides massage therapy to patients in the home or facility and communicates regularly with the Interdisciplinary team.
- Evaluates patients to locate painful or tense areas of the body.
- Manipulates muscles or other soft tissues of the body.
- Provides patients with guidance on stretching, strengthening, overall relaxation, and how to improve their posture.
- Documents patient’s condition and progress and consults with supervisor or RN when appropriate.
- Collaborates and coordinates with the Registered Nurse (RN) and interdisciplinary team (IDT) in the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the patient's Plan of Care, communicating observations, patient responses, and recommendations to support individualized care goals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- One (1) year of experience in an approved massage therapy facility preferred.
- Home care or hospice experience preferred.
- Active Massage Therapist license in state(s) of employment required. Must meet minimum state requirements.
The demands of this role necessitate a team member to effectively perform essential functions. Adaptations can be made to accommodate team members with disabilities. Regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity are fundamental, along with the ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity requirements include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
In a healthcare setting, exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, and conditions typical to the field is expected. Routine use of standard medical equipment and tools associated with clinical care is essential.
