Registered Nurse-Medical Surgical Full-Time Nights – Staff Nurse Inpatient-Kishwaukee
DescriptionThe Staff Nurse Inpatient-Kishwaukee reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities- Complete an assessment for each assigned patient according to hospital and unit specific guidelines and standards of practice, reflecting age specific physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and environmental variables; recognize signs of abuse/neglect.
- Assess patient/family educational needs, abilities, learning preferences, and readiness to learn.
- Anticipate potential problems, including those related to the patient’s disease entity, adjustment to disease, physical complications, knowledge deficit, discharge needs, and family support.
- Develop and update nursing plan of care based on patient assessment and nursing diagnosis with input from the interdisciplinary team; include patient/family education and discharge planning needs.
- Initiate and coordinate effective communication with physicians and other healthcare providers by reporting and recording pertinent observations.
- Assess patient response to treatment regime, recognize and analyze the cause of patient’s symptoms and changing condition, and initiate appropriate nursing interventions.
- Prioritize the care needs for assigned patients, demonstrating ability to readjust priorities with changing patient status or unit activity.
- Actively participate in discharge planning from time of admission, evidenced by documenting patient teaching and patient/family understanding, and timely referrals.
- Apply Standards of Care for safe patient care, considering characteristics of growth and development; consult with team and clinical development coordinator as needed; follow OSHA standards.
- Identify, implement, and document appropriate age-specific interventions in a safe and timely manner; reflect patient’s response to interventions in documentation.
- Include patient/family/significant other as active participants in the development of the plan of care and in teaching.
- Administer prescribed medications and perform treatments safely, utilizing knowledge of medication administration standards; use medication administration time to educate patient/family.
- Provide pain management, comfort, and support to patient, family, and significant other.
- Follow hospital policy in reporting potential abuse/neglect.
- Anticipate patient needs and coordinate care activities with other hospital departments, healthcare providers, and community agencies.
- Perform reassessment according to patient condition, standards of practice, and hospital policy.
- Consistently evaluate patient diagnostic data in a timely manner and intervene appropriately.
- Document treatments, assessments, and patient’s response to nursing actions and interventions accurately.
- Communicate patient’s status changes to shift charge nurse, physician, and other healthcare team members as appropriate.
- Evaluate patient’s and family’s response to teaching plan, including level of understanding, acceptance, and compliance.
- In consultation with the interdisciplinary team, initiate patient care conferences and revise plan of care based on patient response.
