Position: Registered Nurse-Telemetry Unit Full-Time Days

Description

Registered Nurse – Telemetry Unit Full‑Time Days. The Staff Nurse Inpatient – Kishwaukee position reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities
  • Complete assessments for each assigned patient in accordance with hospital and unit‐specific guidelines, integrating age‑specific physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and environmental variables and recognizing signs of abuse/neglect.
  • Assess patient/family educational needs, abilities, learning preferences, and readiness to learn.
  • Anticipate potential problems related to the patient’s disease, adjustment to disease, physical complications, knowledge deficits, discharge needs, and family support.
  • Develop and update nursing plans of care based on patient assessment and nursing diagnosis, incorporating input from the interdisciplinary team and addressing patient/family education and discharge planning needs.
  • Initiate and coordinate effective communication with physicians and other healthcare providers, documenting pertinent observations and reactions.
  • Assess patient response to treatment, identify causes of symptoms, and initiate appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Prioritize care needs for assigned patients and readjust priorities as patient status or unit activity changes.
  • Actively participate in discharge planning from admission through discharge, documenting patient teaching and ensuring timely referrals.
  • Apply Standards of Care in safe patient care, considering normal development across the lifespan and consulting the team and clinical development coordinator as needed; adhere to OSHA standards and hospital policies.
  • Identify, implement, and document age‑specific interventions, reflecting patient response and documenting outcomes.
  • Include patient/family/significant others in the development and teaching of the care plan.
  • Administer prescribed medications and utilize medication administration time to educate patient/family about medications.
  • Provide pain management and comfort support to patient and family.
  • Report potential abuse/neglect per hospital policy.
  • Anticipate patient needs and coordinate care activities with other departments, providers, and community agencies.
  • Perform re‑assessment of patient condition according to standards of practice and hospital policy.
  • Evaluate patient diagnostic data promptly and intervene appropriately.
  • Document treatments, assessments, and patient responses comprehensively and accurately.
  • Communicate patient status changes to shift charge nurse, physician, and other team members as appropriate.
  • Evaluate patient/family response to teaching plans, including understanding, acceptance, and compliance.
  • Consult with the interdisciplinary team to initiate patient care conferences and revise plans of care based on responses.
  • Evaluate the quality of care delivered, including nursing assessments and the overall plan of care.
Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) acceptable if the candidate commits to obtaining a BSN within three years of the first day of employment in a clinical nurse role.
