Job Summary
The Line Service position performs general aircraft fueling, customer service, and miscellaneous duties for all aircraft—both based and transient—at the DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport. Duties include light equipment and automotive maintenance/repairs, light janitorial work, and snow removal. This part‑time, non‑exempt position requires a strong customer service background and the ability to work under minimal supervision. The starting rate is $25.79 per hour, with a full pay range of $25.79 to $37.41 per hour.
Initial review of applications will begin Thursday, June 18th. The position will remain open until filled.
- Fuel all types of aircraft—including piston, turbine, and helicopters—according to FAA requirements. Pump fuel from underground tanks into aircraft or fuel tanks.
- Assist aircraft and flight crews with various needs.
- Greet, receive, and screen visitors at the Fixed‑Based Operation (FBO) desk. Respond to telephone and walk‑in inquiries.
- Accept fuel payments, including cash handling and credit‑card processing. Complete necessary logs and reports.
- Assist customers with catering set‑up, courtesy‑car and rental car arrangements, and coffee service for aircraft.
- Perform quality and safety control checks of aviation fuel and complete necessary records.
- Move aircraft, including towing and storage.
- Handle aircraft cargo and baggage for passengers and crew.
- Oversee ground power unit start‑ups, connecting and disconnecting units, and direct inbound and outbound aircraft to and from the ramp.
- Perform light janitorial and maintenance work at the FBO.
- Perform light grounds work such as landscaping and snow removal.
- Complete light equipment and automotive maintenance/repair work.
- Stay abreast of inclement weather conditions and disseminate information to aircraft customers as needed. De‑ice aircraft as required.
- Complete all aircraft fueling safety training and maintain current knowledge of applicable standards.
- Open, sort, review, and route mail.
- Assist with scheduling of conference rooms and set‑up of rooms for meetings.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
Required
- Knowledge of and ability to operate aircraft refuelers (fuel trucks), fueling cabinets, safety and quality fuel checks, and operation of machinery pertinent to assignments.
- Ability to handle monetary instruments such as credit cards and cash, including basic arithmetic for financial record tasks.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while exercising good judgment and initiative.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to understand and follow complex instructions.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with staff, management, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to maintain professional composure and take reasonable action when confronted with difficult situations.
- Education
:- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Experience
:- Previous airport line service and/or aviation experience preferred.
- Previous mechanical/maintenance experience preferred.
- Working knowledge or ability to gain proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and aviation software required.
Working conditions and physical requirements are standard for airport operations. The position involves routine work between office and outdoor settings, requiring sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and handling exposure to mechanical parts, fumes, vibrations, and outdoor elements. The role may involve lifting and moving fuel hoses or cargo weighing up to 50 pounds, and requires corrected vision for close, distance, and night work.

- All employees must provide their own steel‑toed safety shoes/boots; other protection equipment furnished by the department.
- The position requires the ability to work outside normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and call‑outs as required.
