POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is for a candidate interested in working with and providing instruction to students with disabilities in a Special Education or General Education setting. The candidate must understand a wide range of disabilities, including but not limited to Learning Disability, Intellectual Disability, Emotional Disturbance, Other Health Impairment, Hard of Hearing/Deaf, and Visual Impairment. The candidate must have some knowledge and/or experience with Behavior Modification Strategies, I.D.E.A., and Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support.
Compliance, confidentiality, and communication are required characteristics of an individual in this position.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from a four‑year college or university
- Special Education teaching certificate;
Mild/Moderate Certificate and/or Severe/Profound Certificate
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each pupil’s IEP services.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth individually and in small groups, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports per IEP and district requirements.
- Communicate with parents through IEP conferences and other means to discuss pupil progress and interpret the school program.
- Maintain professional competence through in‑service education activities provided by the district and self‑selected professional growth activities.
- Supervise pupils in out‑of‑classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
- Complete all paperwork, district and state special education forms, in a timely manner to meet federal compliance timelines.
- Work with the general education regular classroom teacher to provide appropriate accommodations for students on an IEP.
- Perform additional duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor or above.
LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR
SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to compose and write grammatically correct correspondence and memos.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule, or blueprint form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
