CompensationThe hourly rate is US $19.06. This is a part‑time position limited to a maximum of 24 hours per work week. Part‑time employees may not exceed 999 hours each year. Selected candidates may be required to work on Saturdays as needed.
Position SummaryThe Driver’s License Examiners (DLEs) are one of the first lines of homeland security for the State of Oklahoma. They conduct driver’s license interviews, examinations (visual, written, and road), and inspections to determine eligibility and qualification for driver’s licenses or state identification cards in compliance with State and Federal regulations.
Position Responsibilities- Interview applicants to determine type of license or identification required; review, inspect, and verify legality of qualifying documents to verify identity and eligibility.
- Advise applicants on reasons an application cannot be accepted and procedures to resolve disqualifying issues, including providing expert testimony for medical disqualifications.
- Evaluate medical, physical or mental information provided by applicant to determine requirements for waivers or restrictions, and advise on waiver procedures.
- Conduct in‑depth vehicle safety inspections of vehicles, buses, and commercial vehicles to prepare for required tests and assess operators’ knowledge and ability to safely operate required systems and equipment.
- Administer vision, written, pre‑trip, and skills tests as appropriate; evaluate applicant’s performance to determine knowledge and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and comply with state and federal laws; identify areas of improvement and advise the applicant.
- Establish driver’s license records while maintaining confidentiality and security of information in compliance with state and federal laws.
- Assist the Legal Division in gathering evidence for potential legal action on fraudulent applications when requested.
- Respond to inquiries from motor license agents to verify an applicant’s identity and provide information concerning specific laws and procedures, and make recommendations on changes in driver’s license laws, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct other interviews and hearings, both formal and informal, concerning driver’s license suspensions, revocations, restrictions, modifications, temporary licenses, and other issues; review and analyze accident reports and other information; render final decisions and complete required forms.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of state and federal laws regarding driving privileges, physical requirements, exemptions and license issuance; various types of commercial vehicles and related safety and operating equipment; interviewing principles.
- Ability to conduct interviews; inspect and evaluate motor vehicles; operate all types of motor vehicles; administer written and performance tests; verify authenticity of identification documents; communicate effectively; operate computers; type accurately.
- Preferred minimum qualifications: (a) Bachelor’s Degree in any field, (b) Four (4) years of technical clerical office work, or (c) an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Have previous customer service experience.
- Have familiarity with DMV processes and procedures.
- Are proficient in typing at least 50 words per minute with minimal errors.
- The schedule may vary and require flexibility, including early or late shifts, weekends, and occasional overtime.
- Work location may vary based on agency needs.
- Occasional travel may be required; candidate must be willing and able to perform all job‑related travel. State vehicles may be available; reliable transportation may be required for local travel. Possession and maintenance of a valid Oklahoma Driver License is required.
- The position works in a storefront setting; noise level is usually mild but may depend on customer traffic.
- Ability to stand up to eight hours a day and lift 10–50 pounds regularly, with assistance as needed.
