Job Title: Emergency Department and Urgent Care Nurse Manager

Job Summary: Provides supervision, management, and leadership of Emergency Department and Urgent Care services and staff. Demonstrates critical thinking skills, ability to provide and delegate activities to staff based on operational need to deliver care in a safe and efficient manner while maximizing positive patient outcomes.

Reports To: Director, Outpatient Services

Salary Range (Exempt): $82,000 to $145,000 (salary range is intentionally broad as pay will be determined based on qualifications, experience and eligibility for bonuses)

Essential Job Functions
  • Provides daily leadership and direction to ensure clinical care is delivered promptly, safely, and effectively.
  • Oversees department quality improvement initiatives and staff education programs.
  • Facilitates clear and consistent communication across departments and within the team to ensure alignment with organizational goals. Acts as a liaison with medical staff, leadership, and external vendors as needed.
  • Develops and maintains the department’s staffing plan, including self-coverage. Monitors staffing levels, overtime, and resource utilization.
  • Offers coaching, education, mediation, counseling, and mentoring to support staff development and performance.
  • Manages direct reports, including recruitment, onboarding, orientation, regular rounding, competency assessments, professional development, and performance evaluations (quarterly and annually).
  • Participates in employee disciplinary processes, including the creation of performance improvement plans and terminations, in collaboration with the Director, Senior Leadership, and Human Resources.
  • Supports new employee onboarding through interviews, orientation sessions, and initial training.
  • Regularly attends hospital leadership meetings and participates in strategic discussions as required.
  • Manages departmental resources—human, financial, material, and systemic—to achieve operational goals and maintain daily functionality.
  • Demonstrates integrity, embraces new challenges, and fosters high levels of associate engagement.
  • Promotes a positive and inclusive work environment through visible leadership and consistent support for staff and customer needs. Encourages ongoing professional growth through evidence-based practice and continuing education.
Clinical
  • Utilizes the nursing process to provide quality patient care according to established standards of care which includes planning, implementing, evaluating, and adjusting plan of care, and discharge planning based on expected patient outcomes.
  • Admits, transfers, and discharges patients.
  • Completes ongoing patient assessment and documents according to policy.
  • Completes nursing assessment as appropriate for the patient’s condition and within established time frames per guidelines.
  • Develops patient plan of care to include patient problems, goals, evaluations, and interventions.
  • Reports symptoms and significant changes in patient’s condition to appropriate personnel and in timely manner.
  • Assesses, collaborates, and coordinates patient’s discharge planning needs and readiness for discharge with other members of the care team.
  • Demonstrates appropriate application of age specific standards, policies and procedures and guidelines in caring for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team in formal and informal teaching of patients and/or family about his or her disease process and wellness promotion plan and discharge planning.
  • Demonstrates an awareness and relevance of research in nursing. Evaluates practices to identify areas for improvement or opportunities for research.

Minimum Requirements
