Youth Minister

Position Title: Youth Minister

Reports to: Primary Lead Pastor

Secondary Staff Parish Relations Committee

Work Hours: Full-Time Salaried employee

Benefits: Expense Reimbursable

Summary:

The youth minister will work closely with the team of youth volunteers to foster a culture of connection, spiritual depth, and impactful ministry within the youth department. This role requires a leader who will enable youth to grow in their self-understanding, in their experience of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and in the expression of their Christian faith. The youth minister will support the overall mission and vision of the church through the youth department.

He or she will become a part of the staff team, supporting other staff, and bringing ideas and spiritual maturity to the overall team effort.

Main Responsibilities
  • Sunday Small Groups and Wednesday night youth program:
    Plan and organize the evening, utilizing adult volunteers. Develop and Assist Youth Praise band in planning and rehearsing.
  • Advanced planning, organizing, and coordinating of programs for youth ministry to enhance the church mission and vision.
  • Recruit and train adult leaders and helpers.
  • Develop and lead mission experiences (both local and foreign)
  • Conduct summer ministries.
  • Prepare youth newsletters and calendars.
  • Provide high level of visibility at youth-oriented activities in the community, (i.e. sporting events, concerts, school functions, campus ministries etc.).
  • Monitor youth attendance and follow-up on extended absences.
  • Cultivate relationships with parents as a bridge to understanding youth needs and recruitment of adult sponsors.
  • Attend and participate in all church staff meetings.
  • Teaching the importance of being a part of the church in worship services, giving the student a better understanding of the total Body of Christ and worship experiences with all generations.
  • Attend worship services on Sundays, locate and connect with any new students or families of students, encouraging them and aiding in a positive worship experience.
  • Attend and participate in community youth ministers’ meetings and events.
  • Establish regular office hours on the premises of the church.
  • Attend all appropriate committee meetings and report on each area of ministry at Administrative Council meetings, including perspectives on long-range needs, resources, and development.
  • Develop and Consult with Youth Advisory Committee.
  • Develop and train youth leaders within the youth ministry department.
  • Develop ways to integrate youth into the life of the church, in Sunday morning worship, committee and team participation, and overall church activities.
  • Plan and organize for Middle School after school program. (recruit & train volunteers and/or drive bus for school pick up).
  • Update and maintain all forms of communication to youth and families.
  • Follow and uphold child/youth protection policy for the safety of our youth.
  • Other duties as directed by Pastor and/or Staff Parish Relations Committee.

  • A love for Jesus, and a commitment for the mission and vision of First Church DeLand.
  • A strong leader who is able to connect with youth of all backgrounds and personalities.
  • Willing to be teachable and to grow with the requirements of the position and church. A desire to learn and grow in all aspects of life.
  • Self-motivated and able to look for ways to jump in and help as well as being able to work within a team setting.
  • A heart to serve, and the ability to cultivate that in others. Helping people find their place, and use their God-given gifts for the glory of God.
  • Be able to clearly communicate goals, visions, and plans with volunteers and staff members. Be able to share the “why” with each team that you are apart of.
  • A heart for discipleship and training to be able to equip the students to leave the campus and be the church wherever God has placed them.
Work Environment/ADA

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may reach, climb, walk, stand, stoop, drive, balance or push to complete job task. Employee may work in an office environment or in occasional outdoor video productions. May work in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment.

Education:

Preferred 4-Year College Degree with 2-5 years of experience
