General Maintenance

Job Summary

The General Maintenance position is an entry‑level role that supports the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the facility. Responsibilities include performing routine custodial duties, light maintenance, and event setup tasks. The technician follows safety procedures, uses cleaning chemicals and tools appropriately, and accurately documents work activities in timekeeping and ERP systems.

• Clean and maintain building interiors by dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and operating cleaning equipment.
• Handle metal scrap recycling and coordinate wastewater disposal with outside services.
• Service and restock restrooms, ensuring cleanliness and hygiene standards are met.
• Empty trash and recycling receptacles throughout the facility.
• Respond promptly to spills, cleaning requests, and other custodial needs.
• Clean windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces.
• Set up, arrange, and remove furniture and decorations for events.
• Perform light maintenance tasks such as replacing bulbs and tightening fixtures.
• Assist with general maintenance and respond to work orders as directed.
• Notify management of major repair needs or safety concerns.
• Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies.
• Make routine decisions regarding basic maintenance; escalate complex issues to supervisors or technicians.
• Split responsibilities evenly between janitorial tasks (cleaning, restocking, waste removal) and general maintenance duties (light repairs, equipment upkeep, and facility support).

• Adheres to safety protocols and promptly reports potential hazards or unsafe conditions.
• Uses chemical cleaners and power equipment in accordance with established procedures to prevent damage and ensure safety.
• Demonstrates basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand and light power tools.
• Understands general building systems, including lighting, plumbing, and basic HVAC functions.

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 1–3 years of experience in general building maintenance or related field.
• Basic knowledge of general building maintenance procedures and safety practices.
• Previous janitorial experience is a plus.
• Previous experience operating a forklift preferred.

• Be able to use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls.
• Be able to reach overhead.
• Be able to work in various positions, including stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods of time.
• Be able to lift, pull, and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
• Be able to lift and/or move 35 pounds of weight frequently throughout assigned workday.
