This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled manual tasks at the journeyman level in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment, mechanical equipment, instrumentation, and control equipment. Work is performed under general direction. Duties may involve the use of trade tools and the operation of light construction equipment as part of the assignment. Work is performed under supervision of the Instrumental Control and Electrical Supervisor.

• Under supervision of a master electrician, performs such duties as maintenance and repair of equipment at water / wastewater plants, lift stations, generators, and storm pump stations.
• Initiates and performs preventative maintenance programs.
• Inspects complex electrical and control equipment for proper operation.
• Repairs all electrical equipment and electronic components including lamp replacement.
• Performs routine inspections on operating equipment.
• Orders parts and materials as needed.
• Coordinates with other trades as needed.
• Install electrical wiring, devices, and systems as assigned.
• Responds to after-hours emergencies as needed.
• On call rotation is required for this position.

• High school or general education degree (GED) from an accredited institution is required.
• Considerable experience in maintenance of medium voltage electrical systems, and equipment including experience in the repair and installation of instrumentation, primary sensing devices, indicators, recorders, automated controls, radio telemetry equipment, small transformers, motor controls, 480 volt equipment, transfer switches, generators, control panels, general power and lighting is required.
• Considerable knowledge of the most current national electric codes (NEC) is required.
• An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements except for licensure/certification requirements.

• Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Must be a licensed journeyman with Volusia County.
• Must be First Aid and CPR/AED certified or get certified within six (6) months of hire.
• After probation, must be available for on-call work rotation as required.

• Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida CDL class “B” motor vehicles operator's license or higher with Air Brake and Tanker Endorsements and an acceptable driving record is preferred.

• Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, the City's management team, and the general public.

• Ability to follow and apply common sense understanding, to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations when immediate guidance from the supervisor may not be available.
• Ability to read and comprehend safety manuals, instructions, memos, blueprints, schematics, financial reports, work orders, and professional journals.

• Knowledge and experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of all sizes of electrical equipment such as controls, telemetry, recorders, transformers, switches, and related equipment.
