Secondary School SPED Instructional Assistant
- Full-time
- Compensation: USD 20.8 - USD 28.2 hourly
The Special Education Instructional Assistant will work in partnership with lead teachers to hold students to high expectations in the classrooms and other settings, such as lunch and recess. The SPED Instructional Assistant will demonstrate commitment to our college-going mission by believing in students’ potential and supporting students' learning.
Essential Job Functions- Supports a vision of excellence for all students, maximizing opportunities for ambitious outcomes.
- Provides classroom learning support and one-to-one or small group instruction as needed, including behavioral, medical, or academic interventions.
- Supports campus supervision before, during, and after school; may also perform bus/van duties as required.
- Communicates regularly with families and attends community events to serve parents and the community.
- Offers clerical administrative support to the Special Education Teacher, including translating/interpreting as needed.
- Leads the classroom in the absence of the lead teacher.
- Participates fully in professional development, staff meetings, coaching cycles, and planning sessions.
- Supports general day‑to‑day school site activities.
- Administers first aid or necessary assistance to ill or distressed students.
- May assist with toileting and diapering and administer prescribed medication per district procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Special Education Leadership or site administration.
- Experience working with school‑aged children, especially those with special needs.
- Ability to read, understand, and implement lessons based on state standards.
- Knowledge of assessments and progress monitoring; accurate record‑keeping.
- Familiarity with IEP documentation and special education reporting software (e.g., Siras) preferred.
- Knowledge of RTI, co‑teaching, collaboration, and small group instruction.
- Training or familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
- Knowledge of de‑escalation strategies (CPI certification preferred).
- Certification in First Aid and/or CPR if required.
- Proficiency with technology and teaching tools.
- Classroom environment; fast‑paced with constant interruptions.
- Physical requirements include hearing, speaking, seeing, reading, preparing documents, operating a computer, kneeling, bending, lifting light objects, and traveling to other sites.
- Competitive hourly pay ($20.80–$28.20); final compensation depends on skills and experience.
