Job Description
The School Bus Driver II reports to the Senior Transportation Manager and is responsible for safely operating a school bus on designated routes. The driver must follow established procedures and regulations, exercise independent judgment in human‑relations situations, and maintain order and safety among students, parents, and the public.
Essential Job Functions- Drive a school bus daily over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging students.
- Escort students across streets and roadways when necessary, stopping traffic as needed.
- Transport students and teachers on field trips to various locations, maintaining departure and arrival times as scheduled.
- Inspect the bus prior to operation for safety, clean windshields and headlights, and clean interior and exterior as needed.
- Operate wheelchair ramp and lift, properly securing wheelchairs inside the bus.
- Maintain appropriate behavior among students on the bus and at bus stops, following district policies regarding student control and contact with parents and the public.
- Report problems or equipment malfunctions and incidents that affect student safety.
- Perform first aid or emergency assistance and maintain records of all trips, filing accident reports as required.
- Attend scheduled safety meetings and safety programs.
- Work onsite as campus supervision during non‑transporting hours.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma.
- Valid California Class “B” Driver’s License with “P” endorsement, “S” endorsement, and air brake endorsement.
- Valid California Special School Bus Driver Certificate.
- Valid American Red Cross First Aid and AED certification.
- Valid D.O.T bus driver’s medical certificate (obtained and maintained).
- Ability to read and write sufficiently to perform all duties, including understanding applicable laws, regulations, and codes.
- Successful completion of 20 hours of classroom instruction related to safety requirements for driving a school bus and 20 hours of instruction behind the wheel of a school bus.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of safe bus driving practices.
- Understanding of bus operation, safety, state laws, rules, and regulations, and education code sections related to school bus operations and pupil transportation.
- Knowledge of first aid practices and ability to administer first aid to ill or injured students.
- Effective communication skills and ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
- Ability to maintain order among students during transport and at bus stops.
- Ability to recognize equipment malfunctions and take appropriate action.
- Ability to keep the vehicle in a clean and safe operating condition.
- Physical dexterity required to operate a bus, with vision and hearing adequate for safe operation.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods and perform routine tasks repeatedly.
- Flexible scheduling, willing to work early morning shifts and varying schedules.
- Friendly and welcoming attitude toward students, helping them feel comfortable before school.
- Dependable and willing to be present every day possible to provide consistent transportation.
$30.00 per hour.
Work Schedule- Monday‑Thursday:
Morning 5:00 am – 10:00 am;
Afternoon 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm. - Friday:
Morning 5:00 am – 10:00 am;
Afternoon 11:30 am – 2:30 pm.
