Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Child Care Director is responsible for the planning, development, and effective implementation of the operation of a quality early‑care child‑care program that complies with current Delaware CARE and Delaware STARS rules and regulations. The position includes program management and staff supervision and requires knowledge of various educational approaches, software, and other educational materials.
EssentialFunctions
- Manage day‑to‑day operation of the licensed preschool/childcare and summer camp program.
- Interpret and maintain compliance with current state licensing requirements for early‑care child‑care centers and address non‑compliance issues as needed.
- Control expenditures against an assigned budget; recommend income and expense projections for assigned areas of responsibility; assist with the financial development of the child‑care program.
- Ensure safe implementation of all child‑care activities, including the condition of equipment and facilities, age‑appropriate activities, and appropriate use of equipment and supplies.
- Directly supervise children and youth within guidelines established by Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware and in compliance with applicable state licensing and Delaware STARS regulations.
- Maintain regular contact with parents/guardians concerning programs, schedules, developmental progress (including behavioral issues), payments, etc.
- Work with families to generate individual learning goals for children.
- Work closely with the Club Childcare Director and Unit Director to establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects and communicate them effectively.
- Organize and lead activities to promote physical, mental, and social development such as games, arts, crafts, music, and storytelling.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students at varying needs and interests.
- Arrange indoor and outdoor space to facilitate creative play, motor skills, and safety.
- Regularly observe, evaluate, and document children’s performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
- Conduct assessments to determine children’s development levels, needs, and potential, work through Ages and Stages, and partner with the local school district if needed.
- Develop and maintain systems for accurately tracking attendance, payments, health checks, medical issues, and other related information within established organizational guidelines.
- Complete and submit reports, perform other administrative tasks as needed or directed, and purchase Child Care reimbursements.
- Contribute toward development of a positive identity and strong presence for the Boys & Girls Clubs in the community.
- Assume other tasks, assignments, and responsibilities as needed or directed.
- Support and contribute to the success of other staff members.
- 20 years of age or older.
- Experience working with preschool and school‑age children.
- Must be able to pass an FBI clearance, State of Delaware Criminal History Background Check, National and State Sexual Abuse Registry check, and National and State Child Abuse Registry Check per Delaware CARE regulations.
- High school diploma or equivalent recognized by the Delaware Department of Education and TECE 1 and TECE 2.
- One (1) year of full‑time experience (equivalent to 1,000 hours) working with either preschool or school‑age children.
- Early Childhood Administrator Certificate.
- School‑Age Administrator Certificate.
- Associate’s degree in a related field (early childhood, psychology, social work, special education, elementary education).
- Frequently lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 25 pounds when preparing room for instruction.
- Typically bends, stoops, walks and sometimes runs on a regular basis while interacting with children in various activities throughout the day.
- Ability to perform duties effectively under stressful conditions; make decisions quickly and accurately with tact and impartiality.
