Job , School Year: 2026‑2027
Position PurposeUnder the direct supervision of certified staff, assist certified professional staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and behavioral objectives.
Essential Job Functions- Assist instructional personnel in education, training, and supervision of students with autism.
- Apply strategies and techniques to foster independence, self‑reliance, and social skills.
- Help deliver lesson plans, present learning materials, and conduct instructional exercises.
- Monitor student progress regarding individualized education plans and goals.
- Support individual students or small groups with autism during instructional activities following lesson presentation, using positive reinforcement and appropriate behavior strategies.
- Adapt instructional materials and learning aids to the level of children with autism.
- Observe students during classroom activities, recesses, and field trips.
- Operate and assist with instructional aids, media, and computer‑assisted instructional equipment.
- Maintain an orderly, safe, and positive learning environment.
- Assist students with basic personal care activities such as dressing, toileting (including catheterization), feeding, and grooming as needed.
- Provide appropriate assistance during medical emergencies.
- Assist students on and off the bus as required.
- Administer varied tests and record results.
- Attend specialized training as required.
- Perform any related duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Follow written or oral instructions.
- Perform basic arithmetic operations as needed.
- Use personal computers and software applications such as Word and Excel.
- Work with a diverse group of individuals.
- Maintain confidentiality of students, employees, and others.
- Establish supportive and compassionate relationships with students with special needs.
- Collaborate with students, staff, and others in the course of work.
- Report orally or in writing to supervisor.
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Work in standard office and school building environments.
- Work outdoors during student activities.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of 60 college credit hours
* or* passing of the Para‑Pro Assessment. - All final candidates must complete a satisfactory criminal background check, child‑protective registry check, and Mantoux skin test results.
