Note: All staff are hired by Milford School District rather than a specific building. While this opening is currently at the Secondary Campus, final placement is subject to change based on district staffing needs.
Position SummaryThe Special Education Coordinator serves as a teacher leader responsible for supporting the effective implementation of special education services in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations. This position requires exceptional time management, organizational, communication, and leadership skills to successfully manage a high-volume caseload while maintaining strict adherence to legal timelines, documentation requirements, and compliance procedures.
The coordinator provides leadership and support to special education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and building staff through collaboration, coaching, problem‑solving, and professional guidance. The position requires the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, maintain accurate and detailed records, and work effectively under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
The Special Education Coordinator is responsible for scheduling, preparing for, and facilitating special education meetings in a professional and collaborative manner, including IEP, eligibility, reevaluation, and parent meetings. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential to effectively work with families, staff, administrators, and outside agencies while ensuring all students receive appropriate services and support.
Qualifications- Possess a valid Delaware teaching license and be certified K-12 Special Education Teacher of Students with Disabilities 14 Del.
C. § 1571. - Master's Degree in Special Education or a related field, preferred.
- Experience serving as a special education teacher.
- Familiar with state and federal special education regulations.
- Demonstrates leadership qualities and serves as a teacher leader in supporting special education programs and services.
- Provides leadership, support, and expertise in the development and implementation of special education services in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and district policies.
- Participates in district‑level special education council meetings, training, and professional learning opportunities as requested.
- Develops and maintains the master IEP meeting schedule at the beginning of the school year and coordinates attendance of related service providers, school psychologists, school nurses, school counselors, and other required team members.
- Coordinates special education evaluations with required related service staff and ensures all required documentation, timelines, and compliance requirements are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Collaborates with building administration, support teams, teachers, and related staff to address student academic, behavioral, social‑emotional, and attendance concerns.
- Works collaboratively with teachers and school psychologists to develop, implement, and monitor Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
- Assists with the placement and programming of special education students during summer months and extended school year services, as applicable.
- Prepares, verifies, and submits documentation and data required for September and December Unit Count submissions.
- Pushed into classrooms to provide instructional support, coaching, modeling, feedback, and guidance to teachers and students.
- Ensures adherence to all federal and state special education laws and district procedures regarding meetings, timelines, parental rights, procedural safeguards, and required documentation.
